Leave a legacy of kindness

BlueCare began with someone who cared.

Through a gift in your Will, you will carry our care and values into the future.

In 1953, the first Blue Nurse, Sister Olive, travelled by tram to care for ageing and vulnerable people in Brisbane’s West End. Within a few years, there were BlueCare nurses all across Queensland, funded by donations and gifts in Wills from generous people like you.

Today, BlueCare is the largest provider of services and care for older Queenslanders. But the need for our compassionate care has never been greater.

Through a gift in your Will to BlueCare, you will carry on Olive’s legacy of helping others. You will allow us to invest in the innovation, technology and training needed to bring the best care to older and vulnerable Queenslanders into the future.

“I forget how old I am at times. Many of the people here are much younger than me. But they need help, so I’m very happy to help them. I’ve left a gift to BlueCare, because they remember and care for elderly Queenslanders.

Most of us have had responsible jobs and spend our lives helping others. When we come into BlueCare, maybe because of illness or dementia, we need help.”

Your common questions answered

Is it difficult to write or update a Will and how much does it cost?

add remove

Writing a Will is a personal and significant decision to make. It’s important to take your time and consider what is most important to you and the type of legacy you would like to leave. Once you’ve made your decision it can be quick and simple. If you already have a Will, you just need to update it to include an extra sentence about your gift.

We recommend you consult your solicitor who can provide an estimate of cost and help you write or update your Will.

Alternatively you can use a digital Will writing service like SafeWill.

This is our recommended wording:

“I give (specify the type of gift) to The Uniting Church in Australia Property Trust (Q.) represented by BlueCare (ABN: 96 010 643 909) (“BlueCare”) or any successor of it, to be applied for its general purposes. I declare the receipt of an authorised officer of BlueCare will be sufficient discharge of the bequest to my Executor/Trustee.”

Can I look after my family and still include a gift to BlueCare?

add remove

Absolutely. We always recommend you take care of your loved ones first. For this reason, many people choose a ‘residual gift’, which is the remainder of your estate after you’ve provided for your family and other expenses.

I don’t have a lot to leave. Will my gift still make a difference?

add remove

Yes! Every gift, big or small, helps BlueCare support older, sick and vulnerable people into the future. Gifts in Wills make it possible for BlueCare to plan ahead and bring exceptional care to the growing number of people who need us.

Can I say where I want my gift to be used?

add remove

Gifts in Wills provides BlueCare with the confidence for long-term planning and development. Leaving a gift to a specific program or location might mean that we cannot fulfil your wishes if the needs of our community change and our programs or locations change to meet that need in the future. Keeping your gift for general purposes enables BlueCare to use it where the need is greatest at the time.

Will some of my gift be used for administration costs?

add remove

No. Gifts in Wills are applied according to the wishes of the person who left them.
